Description

Advanced Mountaineering Course

Why should I do this advanced mountaineering course?

If you have done some easy summer scrambles (grade 1) and want to learn how to use a rope on harder scrambles and progress onto easier climbs then this is the course for you.

What does this course cover?

Advanced summer mountaineering is a 5 day course covering summer scrambling routes at grades 2,3,4 and easy climbs.
We hope to cover some classic mountain scrambles like Pinnacle ridge, Slab and Notch on Pillar, Harrisons stickle in Langdale, Easy terrace and Giants crawl on Dow. Easy climbs like Middlefell buttress in Langdale, brown slabs in Borrowdale and C Ordinary route on Dow.
We will teach you first, when and how to use a rope to protect yourself and a second while scrambling. This includes taking coils, choosing and using direct belays, indirect belaying and body belays, placing runners, moving together and down climbing. Then we will move onto transferring those skills onto easy (grade difficulf) rock climbs.
We also cover how to choose a route and interpret the guide book.

What do I need to have done before?

You should be hill fit and happy to spend a day in the fells walking. Some experience of easy summer scrambling or indoor rock climbing is helpful but not essential.

Who else will be on the course?

Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday are run on a 1:4 ratio.

Thursday & Friday are run on a 1:2 ratio.

We find this gives you increased attention from your instructor as your skills improve through the week.  We find this offers excellent progression on the Thursday & Friday allowing client lead days.  Through discussion with your instructor you have many options for the syllabus on these days to progress at the level that suits you.
