Abseiling Lake District

Why should I do abseiling Lake District with climb365?

We are a Lake District based family run business that specialises in high quality professional service. We have been working and enjoying taking groups into the Lake District fells for over 20 years. We understand that abseiling can be an intimidating experience for many people. Lots of people who thought they could not get over the edge and down the cliff succeed and have a really rewarding experience. We are AALA licensed and therefore able to instruct groups of children and young people under 18 without their parents being present should this be necessary.

What is involved in abseiling?

Abseiling is usually a half day activity and can be combined with one of our other adventure activities to give a full day. You will control your abseil descent down a rope with the use of an abseiling device. We will also a have separate safety rope attached to you. Once you are down, you can then have as many goes as you want in the time. We will give you all the technical knowledge and encouragement you need to have a go at abseiling.

Where are the abseiling venues?

All the abseiling venues are easy to get to from Ambleside, Windermere and Keswick.

There are many different abseiling venues and it depends on what type of adventure you want.  Many of the smaller climbing crags offer some easy beginner’s abseiling and a morning or afternoon can be combined with some climbing. Cathedral quarry in Little Langdale has several different abseiling options.  The smallest is 15m and the biggest 40m. We often use the 15m abseiling as a practice run for the lager 40m abseiling. There are also some great tunnels and ‘the cathedral’ to explore. Hodge close also has several different walls for abseiling down into the old quarry which now has a water filled base. The only exit is via the diver’s tunnel. Shepherds crag in Borrowdale offers a choice of abseiling and climbs.

What do I need to have done before?

No experience of abseiling is needed. Come ready to have fun an adventure and be challenged.
